Sarah: Wedding Budget Buster Number 1: Service Charges & Gratuity
DJ Sam: You see a price per plate, and you think, “Ah!, Okay! That’s good. I can afford that.” Then you see the fine print. 20%, maybe even 22%, sometimes more, in service charges. And here’s the kicker: that doesn’t always include gratuity, so you have to plan for that. Always ask “What’s included?” Don’t assume!
Sarah: Wedding Budget Buster Number 2: Alterations
DJ Sal: That dream dress! Yeah, it rarely fits perfectly. Alterations can run a few hundred to over a thousand dollars. Same goes for suits, two hemming, tailoring. It all adds up.
Sarah: Wedding Budget Buster Number [00:03:00] 3: Vendor Meals
DJ Sam: This one surprises a lot of couples. If your vendors are there five plus hours, they need to eat. Often, it’s required for you to provide meals to your dj, photographer, videographer. It’s small per person, but it adds up quickly.
Sarah: Wedding Budget Buster Number 4: Overtime Fees
DJ Sal: The party’s going great. Nobody wants at the end, but your vendors are watching the clock. Extra hour equals extra charge. Sometimes a big one. Plan your timeline realistically, so you are not scrambling.
Sarah: Wedding Budget Buster Number 5: Transportation
DJ Sam: Limos, party buses, guest shuttles. And don’t forget the multiple trips, the wait time, and tips. It’s not just, “oh, we booked a limo”. Ha! There’s a lot of layers to it!

DJ Sam: Ha!! That’s right! On today’s Wedding Tip Wednesday. Guests Come First. When you first get engaged, before you really do anything, sit down as a couple, and with your parents, if possible, and write down a complete guest list. Remember, friends you haven’t seen or contacted in the last five or 10 years, may not be your first choice to be on that guest list.

Sarah: Wedding Budget Buster Number 6: Setup & Breakdown Fees
DJ Sam: Some vendors charge you just to show up early and set up, or to stay late and pack everything up, especially with decor and rentals. Ask up front. “Is set up and breakdown included in the price?”
Sarah: Wedding Budget Buster Number 7: Rentals You Didn’t Think About!
DJ Sal: You’ve got tables and chairs, but what about linens, chargers, specialty glasses, extra lighting, even things like cake stands or signage displays. Pinterest [00:07:00] inspiration equals rental reality.
Sarah: Wedding Budget Buster Number 8: Beauty Trial Runs
DJ Sam: HAMU. Remember that acronym? Hair and makeup. Those trials are usually separated from the wedding, and you should absolutely do them, but they’re not always included. That’s another few hundred dollars, depending on your team.
Sarah: Wedding Budget Buster Number 9: Postage & Stationery Extras
DJ Sal: Save the dates. Invitations. RSVP cards. These all take postage. And remember, postage seems to always be going up. Plus upgrades like thicker paper, wax seals, calligraphy. It adds personality and cost.

DJ Sam: And this is the big one. We saved it to the end. “Just one more thing.”
You’re always saying that. “Just one more thing.” “Oh, let’s add a photo booth.” “What about sparklers?” “Oh, what about custom [00:08:00] napkins?” Individually? They’re not bad. Together. A budget destroyer!
DJ Sal: So there you have it. The bottom line. None of these are bad expenses. You just need to know about them ahead of time. That’s how you stay stress-free and in control. Plan smart, ask questions, and always leave a little cushion in your budget.
