DJ Sal: Every love story begins with excitement and possibility, but marriage adds a new layer to the meaning of that connection. We remind couples that building a life together means growing, listening, and choosing partnership every single day.
DJ Sam: Marriage feels both familiar and new. The subtle shift from “me” to “we” creates a deeper connection and new expectations.
DJ Sal: Communications becomes your greatest tool. Listening, checking in, and expressing needs with [00:03:00] empathy, and strengthening long-term partnerships.
DJ Sam: Teamwork is essential. Dividing responsibilities fairly and supporting each other through changing seasons builds stability.
DJ Sal: Stay curious about each other. People grow and evolve. Continue dating, ask questions and rediscover each other to keep the relationship vibrant.
DJ Sam: Protect the fun and friendship. Laughter, play, and intentional joy, turn a marriage from routine into a lifelong bond. Remember that marriage isn’t about perfection, but partnership two people choosing time and time again to love with intention. When couples nurture, communication, curiosity, and joy, they create not only a wedding day to remember, but a marriage to cherish for a lifetime. Let’s explain.
DJ Sal: But first, thanks to Kelly and Ryan who listened to [00:04:00] our podcast on Spotify. Thanks again to Kelly and Ryan, and thanks for listening to the Stress-Free Wedding Planning Podcast.
DJ Sam: You know, so I’ve been married for 35 years now, and there is a big misconception. People think marriage feels instantly different and at the same time, not different at all.
DJ Sal: Exactly. Sam, I’ve been married now to Vanessa for 17 years. You wake up the next day married, and suddenly there’s a deeper sense of “we”. But your daily routine, pretty much the same, except now you’re calling someone husband and wife without laughing.
DJ Sam: And the truth is that subtle shift from me to us is where the real work and the real joy begins.
DJ Sal: It is a partnership, not a performance. [00:05:00] You don’t need to have it all figured out right away. It’s just not gonna happen anyway. The first year is learning how to mix your habits, rhythms, expectations, and even your weird quirks. Take it in stride, learn about each other, and fall in love every day.
DJ Sam: If we had to pick one theme that carries couples from “I do” to forever, it’s communication.
DJ Sal: And not just talking — but listening, asking, checking in, and being willing to say, “Hey, something feels off. Can we talk
DJ Sam: Most disagreements aren’t about the actual issue. You’ve heard people say “it’s about the principle.” Really, arguments tend to be about feelings, unheard, unseen, or misunderstood.
DJ Sal: Sam and I always like to throw in a Pro Tip and here we go. Instead of saying, “You Never” or “You Always”, try, “I Feel” blank “When” blank “Happens. Can we figure out a better way together?”
DJ Sam: That sentence alone has probably saved a [00:06:00] ton of marriages. You can’t always be right. So if you get into an argument, sometimes the better person is the one that says,” Hey, I’m wrong.”
DJ Sal: Teamwork makes the marriage work. Your wedding day was put together by teamwork. Your marriage will be too. Divide responsibilities in a way that feels fair, not necessarily 50 50, but what works best for the both of you.
DJ Sam: Exactly. Be flexible. Both of you have different strong points. Life changes, schedules shift. Energy levels change. Teamwork means stepping in when your partner needs it.
DJ Sal: Marriage isn’t score keeping, it’s support, partnership and choosing each other every day. There’s gonna be times that you’re not gonna be happy with each other, but always remember, go back, “Hey, I love this person and I wanna make this work.” So you always wanna work it out by supporting each other and talking it out. As we always say, [00:07:00] communication is key.

DJ Sam: Hey Sal, it’s time for Wedding Tip Wednesday.
DJ Sal: Yes, and here’s a real simple one for you. For the ceremony, the Bride always has this grand entrance song. There’s nothing special for the groom. It’s usually the background music. Have something special for the groom and the groomsmen. Maybe like “Sharp Dress Man” or something like that. Something fun, maybe even like “Big Pimping”. Whatever works for you and whatever works for your personality.
DJ Sam: And that’s another wedding tip from Sal and Sam.
Adam: Wedding Tip Wednesday is available on the Stress-Free Wedding Planning [00:09:00] Facebook group page every Wednesday. Join the group for free.
Vanessa: And now back to the Stress-Free Wedding Planning Podcast.
DJ Sam: So far we’ve talked about the big shift, communication and teamwork, but there’s more to come, “From, “I do” to forever”. Here’s some crucial insights for new couples. I’m Sam from Atmosphere Productions.
DJ Sal: I’m Sal of After Hours Events of New England.
DJ Sam: Here’s something most newlyweds forget. You’ll both evolve, and that’s a good thing. Marriage isn’t about locking yourself into who you were the day before you got married.
DJ Sal: You’ll change jobs, hobbies, goals, even how you spend your free time. Make space and rediscover each other.
DJ Sam: That’s right. Ask questions. Date each other again. Check in. Make sure both of you are all right. Celebrate the small wins.
DJ Sal: The couples who stay curious, stay connected. What are your thoughts, Sam?
DJ Sam: I think that’s absolutely true. The part about dating each other is something that my wife and I Susan do [00:10:00] all the time. When I’m not working on a Friday or Saturday, we go on a date night because it’s a great time to go out and sit and have a dinner and have something peaceful. It’s great to have date night again.
DJ Sal: Look, you always wanna keep the fun alive. Let’s be honest. “Life happens”. Bills, schedule responsibilities they can can take over.
DJ Sam: But fun doesn’t disappear. The “life happens” may take over, but it only happens, if you let it. Keep dancing in the kitchen. Plan silly outings. Send random texts, make each other laugh.
DJ Sal: Marriage isn’t just a commitment; it’s a friendship. And the strongest ones know how to play. Look, now Sam and I are married. There’s children involved here. So a lot more are happening with children nowadays. So I’m talking on a today type of thing, not when we just got married, but before we got had kids, we were having fun. We’d go do things [00:11:00] together, plan little trips together, which was always a lot of fun. We were very spontaneous. We still try to do that with the children nowadays. When you add the children in, that’s gonna add another dimension, but that’s another podcast for another time later
DJ Sam: Hah! That’s right, Sal. Here’s a line to remember: “it’s you two versus the problem, not you versus each other, and the problem!”
DJ Sal: Exactly. When the challenges show up and they will, remember you’re on the same side, the same team.
DJ Sam: When you disagree, focus on understanding instead of winning. As I said before, you can’t both always be right, but sometimes you know, you may have to put your foot down. Whatever it is, it’s not about winning. It’s about doing it together.
DJ Sal: So there you have it. If we had a sum up today’s edition, it really comes down to being intentional with each other. Marriage is built in the everyday moments just as much as the [00:12:00] big ones.
DJ Sam: Communicate openly, be a team. Stay curious. Make time for fun and give each other a whole lot of grace.
DJ Sal: Marriage isn’t about perfection, it’s about intention. It’s choosing each other even on the days that feel messy or imperfect.
DJ Sam: Yes, that’s right. And every day is a chance to build the “forever” you promised each other.
