DJ Sam: You know most people pick the spring and summer or even the fall when they think of having their wedding or “the wedding season”.
DJ Sal Fusco: But winter can really create an atmosphere [00:02:00] that’s as beautiful and sometimes even more unique.
DJ Sam: Here’s some great reasons why a winter wedding is something to be considered. Firstly, it’s that magical atmosphere. The snow and it’s cozy and snuggly. There’s also better availability. It’s the off season. So you don’t have to fight with those Fall or Spring crowds for booking your facility. Which leads right into a cost saving. Many venues will give you special offers if you do it in the winter and the guest experience is so much different from doing it in the spring or fall.
DJ Sal Fusco: So let’s set the scene for you. Imagine this you’re walking into the facility with these beautiful pine trees decorations in all the winter colors the reds the greens the yellows and blues. Just creating this such a festive moment for this wedding in a winter. Also all those nice piping hot drinks that people have in their hand looking [00:03:00] all cozy and comfortable.
DJ Sam: There’s something to be said about that Sal because outside it’s cold but inside you’re surrounded by warmth and togetherness and the love of family for a celebration.
DJ Sal Fusco: Another great thing about a winter wedding is everything’s happening in one location. Nice and close and cozy. From the ceremony to the cocktail hour, to the meal right to the dancing for the reception. Everything in one nice cozy place, making you feel very comfortable.
DJ Sam: Another thing about having it in the winter or those cold months, is that the family are ready and prepared to dance and have fun because you can’t escape outside. That’s the beauty of having a winter wedding.
DJ Sal Fusco: I had like to say congratulations to Erin and Chris who recently got married at Maneely’s in South Windsor, Connecticut. They listen to the Stress-Free Wedding Planning podcast to help them plan their wedding. All the best to the future of Aaron and Chris.
DJ Sam: Now let’s talk about [00:04:00] inspiration. That’s the cozy concept and the inspiration that’s a highlight of having a winter wedding. Well, you can mix the wood, the pine cones, the evergreen branches. Mix that with rich colors like deep reds, emerald greens or even icy blue.
DJ Sal Fusco: And don’t forget about lighting. Winter weddings almost demand those twinkling lights or candles. It’s romantic and it photographs beautifully. Plus uplighting makes a great ambiance around the room.
DJ Sam: Those greens and those blues and the reds uplighting going around the room. Wow! That really makes a big difference. Also making a big difference is the food and drink. You can, of course, have those signature cocktails like spiked hot cocoa, mulled wine. Even offering a hot chocolate bar during the cocktail hour, which will of course get the guests kind of buzzed, literally and figuratively.
DJ Sal Fusco: And if you’re daring you could go outside to the fire [00:05:00] pit and actually have some s’mores and enjoy that! What a great snack at a winter wedding. And for dinner, comfort food with a gourmet twist, is a winner. Short ribs, creamy risotto, even mini grilled cheese paired with tomato soup shooters. It’s cozy and fun.
DJ Sam: That sounds delicious! Salad really does. Do you have any questions or concerns? DJ Sam: Are you ready for Wedding Tip Wednesday?
DJ Sal Fusco: I know I am Sam. Let’s talk about the rehearsal for the ceremony. If you’re having your ceremony at the same location [00:07:00] as your reception, this is a good time to show your wedding party and parents all the different aspects of the wedding that day. What I mean by that is, where photos are gonna be taken and all other little things you have to plan for ahead of time. By guiding them through everything they will be ready the day of.
DJ Sam: That’s another wedding tip from Sal and Sam.
Adam: Wedding Tip Wednesday is available on the Stress-free Wedding Planning Facebook group page every Wednesday. Join the group for free.
Bradley: And now back to the Stress-Free Wedding Planning Podcast!
DJ Sal Fusco: Here are some more reasons why you may wanna have a captivating winter wedding. Let’s get you inspired for these cozy concepts. I’m Sal of After Hours Events of New England.
DJ Sam: And I’m Sam from Atmosphere Productions. We’ve already talked about setting the scene and some cozy concepts and the inspiration for your winter wedding. Now let’s talk about one of my favorite things: the entertainment and music, because music really brings a winter [00:08:00] wedding together. It brings it to life. Now Imagine this starting the night off with some soft music, an acoustic vibe maybe a guitarist or a violinist that will be playing probably some seasonal tunes . Then building the energy for a packed dance floor with the dj. That’s one of the concepts that you’ve gotta try and think of. It doesn’t have to be your typical wedding where it’s just jazz music for the cocktail hour, jazz music for the dinner and then partying on. You can really massage this and have a little softer tone at the very beginning.
DJ Sal Fusco: Exactly Sam. Couples could even add some seasonal touches to their entertainment. They could have their dj or if they have a band of course, play some seasonal music, that makes sense to that time of year. And also have sleigh bells or even a sleigh as a decor thing. Something that’s a little fun. You could take pictures with. It adds to the atmosphere. And also you could do a sparkler [00:09:00] sendoff where you have all your guests lined up and uh facing each other And what will happen is they’ll have their sparklers right above you and you run right through that tunnel and it makes for great pictures.
DJ Sam: I’ve seen some photographers do some great stuff with that in video and also in still photography, so that’s something to ask you photographer or videographer about. Now here’s some practical Stress-Free Wedding Planning tips. If you’re planning a winter wedding build in buffer time. You never know, the weather can be unpredictable and especially if you’re having it in the cold climates of the northeast or the northern parts of the country, it will be cold. So plan on transportation and travel delays.
DJ Sal Fusco: You know also keep guests comfortable. Something you may wanna consider is having blankets for them. So anything that’s outdoor they could keep themselves warm. Sometimes the older guests really uh enjoy having a blanket inside, because it’s still, [00:10:00] even though the heat’s on it may not be warm enough for them. That’ll make them feel so much better.
DJ Sam: Ensure that your venue can accommodate the warmth. Make sure that temperatures are gonna be up cause nobody wants to wear a coat on the dance floor. Guests need to be taken care of, of course. And remember you are creating a magical atmosphere for your winter celebration. Not something that’s chilly and cold!!
DJ Sal Fusco: So there you have it. Winter weddings they are really so underrated. They bring this natural coziness. A sense of intimacy. And when you lean into those seasonal details the whole experience feels unforgettable. So if you’re listening and thinking winter isn’t for you, don’t rule it out yet. With the right planning it could be the perfect season for your perfect day.
