A great Best Man’s Toast requires some creativity, some patience, and some humor!
Firstly, fear of public speaking in very common. In fact, it has a name: Glossophobia.

Be Prepared
Above all, you can boost your chances of making your best man speech a hit by being prepared. Start by writing down your thoughts in a clear and concise manner. So, here’s a great best man speech template to follow:
- Have a killer opening line – “Marriage is a mistake every man should make” – George Jessel
- Introduce yourself but don’t say “For those of you who don’t know me…”
- Thank the other speakers and the parents of the couple.
- Congratulate the newlyweds.
- Say a few nice words about your friend’s new spouse.
- Make a joke about the groom – “Here’s to the groom, a man who keeps his head though he loses his heart.”
- Quote a famous line or a poem – “The best way to remember your wife’s birthday is to forget it once.” – H.V. Prochnow
- Say something from the heart and propose a toast.
Don’t Be Longwinded

In general, keep the toast to no more than five minutes. Long enough to say something meaningful but without becoming boring.

- Previous marriages/divorces or past relationships
- Drinking, drugs, gambling or past bad behavior
- Negative connotations about marriage

Finally, when the toast is completed it is customary to end with “Cheers…. to the happy couple!” or “And now let’s raise our glasses to …{couples names}”. Consequently, this gives a CLEAR indication that the toast is over.
